Dragon Ball Z Cast and Release Date Announced

November 15th, 2007 by rockyblizzard

Twentieth Century Fox is bringing the Japanese manga phenomenon "Dragonball" to the bigscreen.

Justin
Chatwin (War of the Worlds) will star as Goku, a powerful warrior who
protects the Earth from an endless stream of rogues bent on dominating
the universe and controlling the mystical objects from which the film
takes its name. James Marsters ("Angel") is onboard as the film’s
villain Piccolo.

Actor-director-writer Stephen Chow (Kung Fu
Hustle) is producing. "Final Destination" helmer James Wong will direct
from a script he penned. Ben Ramsey wrote an earlier draft.

Story
is based on Akira Toriyama’s popular manga that has spawned graphic
novels, a long-running TV series and more than 25 videogames, which
have sold more than 10 million units since May 2002. The Jump Comics
division of Tokyo-based Shueisha published the "Dragonball" manga.

With
shooting scheduled to begin later this month, Fox will bow the
sci-fi/adventure worldwide August 15th 2009. Chatwin has already begun
training with 87Eleven, the stunt performance company behind the action
sequences in "The Matrix," "The Bourne Supremacy," "Mr. & Mrs.
Smith" and "300."

Transformers - Then & Now!

June 21st, 2007 by rockyblizzard
Transformers - Then & Now
#1 - Optimus Prime
1980′S
2007
In the upcoming 2007 Transformers
film, Optimus Prime will be present as Autobot leader. Prime now
transforms into a conventional Peterbilt cab (akin to his Laser Rod
incarnation), rather than cab over design of his original Generation 1
body. In a move that has proven rather controversial among some fans,
Prime’s vehicle mode is now decorated with red flames painted onto a
blue body, apparently as a means of incorporating both his classic
colors while retaining a realistic color layout to the truck mode.

Although heavily redesigned like the other characters in the film, some
classic design elements remain in his robot mode, including a
predominantly red torso, primarily blue legs, the presence of windows
in his chest, air filters on his shoulders, and a head design
influenced by the original, featuring the iconic faceplate and
antennae. An internet leaked unfinished television advertisment shows
that the faceplate retracts to expose a mouth when Prime speaks. It was
publicly announced at San Diego ComicCon 06 that original Optimus Prime
voice actor Peter Cullen will return to the role for the film.

Motto:

"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings."
"No sacrifice is too great in the service of freedom."

#2 - Megatron
1980′S
2007
The apparent explanation for the
departure from his gun form is that director Michael Bay does not want
to include any sort of size changing in the transformations, with the
writers describing it as cheating. The Sector 7 website, part of the
Transformers movie advertising campaign, released an email on March 23
that indicates that actor Hugo Weaving has been cast as the voice of
Megatron.

He appears very bio-mechanical. Nonetheless, he is still silver, has a
helmet, heavily built shoulders and large legs, characteristics that
some might say faintly mirror the G1 look. Producer Don Murphy noted in
a recent interview that Megatron’s head design has been changed, [8]
and recently leaked images of Megatron’s "Battle Mode" shows him to
have a helmet, as the G1 Megatron did: likewise, recently leaked
concept art proves that one of Megatron’s arms does indeed turn into a
cannon, helping keep some semblance to his original G1 form [9]. It is
also revealed in the recent third trailer that Megatron has his flail,
as seen in the G1 cartoon.

Motto:

"Lesser creatures are the playthings of my will."

#3 - Bumblebee
1980′S
2007
Bumblebee will be appearing in the
live-action Transformers movie in 2007, returning to his role as the
friend of the Autobots’ human ally - in this case, Sam Witwicky. When
the Decepticons target Sam for the map he possess that shows the
location of the life-giving Allspark, Bumblebee is assigned to guard
Sam and gets closer to him by posing as a used car which Sam then buys.
Recent trailer footage shows him being attacked and subdued by a group
of humans, who seem to be operatives of Sector 7.

For the film, Bumblebee will be a 1970s Chevrolet Camaro, but will
later be modified into the 2009 preproduction version of the car. Some
leaked information indicates that he may not have a vocal role in the
film, having had his voice capacitor crushed, and may communicate
through his car radio. As a tribute to the original Bumblebee, a yellow
Volkswagen Beetle will appear as a cameo in the car shop.

Motto:
"The least likely can be the most dangerous."

#4 - Starscream
1980′S
2007
In the upcoming live-action movie,
screenwriter Alex Kurtzman has made clear that Starscream will not
stray from his treacherous roots as he seeks to overthrow Megatron, and
engages in bickering arguments with him. As ever, Starscream transforms
into a jet — in this case, an F-22 Raptor — but is bulkier
than most incarnations due to the lack of mass displacement and the
size of the Raptor jet. He maintains a simian body shape with large
shoulders and arms and small bird-like feet, although his chest is
still formed by the jet’s nose. His arms can become large cannons.

Although in keeping with the aesthetic of the movie designs seen this
far, the protoform body is more reminiscent of the classic Starscream
design, with a chest-cockpit, pectoral intake fans, tailfins on his
ankles and triangular shoulder projections and more human-like
proportions. Recently an audio clip has been sent to seibertron.com
that has the voice of Starscream telling Sector 7 that the Allspark
will be in his possession [5]. Another audio clip on Sector 7 has
Starscream having a conversation with the mysterious Agent X. In this
clip Starscream demands that Agent X gives him the Allspark, before
apparently transforming and leaving.

Motto:
"The least likely can be the most dangerous."

#5 - Jazz
1980′S
2007
Jazz is set to appear in the
upcoming live action film directed by Michael Bay. When the movie
producers unveiled the final rosters for all the Transformers appearing
in the movie, Jazz was described as having a love of style, with a
rock-’n-roll type of personality—not unlike his G1 persona.
According to Jalopnik, Jazz’s alternate mode will be a silver/gray
customized hardtop Pontiac Solstice, similar to the weekend racer
concept car. This has been confirmed by several leaked photos. Jazz’s
weapons include a sword and shield, as well as a shoulder-mounted
Gatling machine gun.

Motto:
"Do it with style or don’t bother doing it"

#6 - Bonecrusher
1980′S
2007
Bonecrusher, as he will appear in
the upcoming film, will have this vehicle mode based on the Buffalo
armored vehicle, manufactured by Force Protection Inc. The Buffalo is
currently in service with the United States Military in Iraq, and has
been praised by troops for its effectiveness in defusing Improvised
Explosive Devices (IEDs) with its 30-foot-long mechanical "claw." The
sighting of a large armored vehicle with an art design with the words
"Bonecrusher" painted on the side confirms this. His feet are wheels,
and his weapons include blades on his forearms, as well as a grappling
hook mounted on his back.

Motto:
"Hit it till it stands no taller than dust."

‘X-Men’ Spin-Off ‘Magneto’ To Reveal Anti-Hero Origin Story!

May 16th, 2007 by rockyblizzard

Magneto

After
marshalling just about every successful Marvel comic to the big screen,
what’s left for mega producer Avi Arad to get excited about?
“Magneto,” he enthused. “I love it!” While we
first met the diabolical anti-hero (played with gusto by Ian McKellen)
in “X-Men,” and followed his mutant crusade through two
sequels, it’s in “Magneto” that the character will
finally get the origin story he so richly deserves, Arad revealed.

“Think of meeting him in [the first “X-Men” movie]
as a young boy in a concentration camp. What happens to his life after
the war?” he teased of the film’s plot. Arad quickly
answered his own question, telling MTV News that the flick will follow
Magneto discovering “if [his powers are] real or not and the
whole journey of [his] survival as a young man.”

Directed and co-written by “Batman Begins” scribe David
Goyer, the prequel has all sorts “of opportunities for the kind
of things that [will] make [it] interesting,” Arad contended,
including a look at his early friendship with and ultimate rift from
Charles Xavier, the mutant who would later become the leader of the
X-Men.

Given Magneto is already the head of the militant mutant
organization known as The Brotherhood in the first film, will the
prequel detail the steps he takes to form that alliance, perhaps
highlighting such mutants as Sabertooth and Rebecca Romijn’s
Mystique? “[Some] amazing surprises that happen in his life [are
in store],” Arad coyly answered.

While Arad searches for an actor to play the young Magneto, he can
only hope the casting will match that of Robert Downey, Jr., who Arad
says is a perfect fit to play Tony Stark/Iron Man. “I think he is
Tony. He is cool, he is quick, he is sexy,” Arad said in praise
of his lead actor. “Tony Stark was this guy who could get away
with anything. He had this dual life and you need an amazing actor to
play this dual character without superpowers. You have to be two men
with one heart.”

“Iron Man” arrives in theaters next May, while “Magneto” aims for a 2009 release.

EXCLUSIVE: 20 Minute Sneak Preview Of Hairspray!

April 21st, 2007 by rockyblizzard

Hairspray PosterLast
night I was lucky enough to be invited to a very special presentation
of Adam Shankman’s Hairspray at Dolby Laboratories. I must admit,
I’m not a fan of musicals, or at least I haven’t been in
the past. Baz Luhrman’s Moulin Rouge! was my first positive
experience in the genre. And Dreamgirls became one of my favorite films
of last year (although not in my top 10). I’m very critical of
the genre, and I sometimes wonder it’s value in contemporary
times. That said, New Line has definitely created something magical
with the New Hairspray. Read on.

The screening room in the Dolby Labs is a wooden modernized
art deco design, with a small stage, curtain, and stadium seating.
While I sat in my seat waiting for the presentation I looked around
wondering where the speakers were. I didn’t see a single speaker,
ANYWHERE. And you would expect a place like Dolby would have a jacked
up sound system. And you would be correct. I later discovered while
exiting the screening room that the entire wall is a speaker. What
seems to be wallpaper is actually that mesh speaker material. The sound
was quite incredible.

Hairspray director Adam Shankman came out and introduced
himself. He claimed that this film was “the best
experience” he’ll ever have. He talked about how everyone
in the cast signed on because they really wanted to do this movie. Adam
said that Michelle Pfeiffer supposedly calls herself Dr. No, because
she never says yes to movie offers anymore. He talked briefly about the
original John Waters film, and how Waters told him “You have to
do your own thing.”

“Which is a very sweet thing to say to the
guy who made Cheaper By The Dozen 2,” joked Shankman.
“Which I did completely as a favor.”

Shankman is an incredible speaker. He talks and you listen as the stories pour out of his mouth and fill the room.

The lights then went down and we saw a 20 plus minute
preview of the film which Shankman called a “Franken
Trailer.” It consisted of pieces of songs, pieces of scenes,
montage segments that seem like they should be part of a theeatrical
trailer, and more. We were warned that parts of the cut were not
completely finished, although you wouldn’t have noticed at all
from the footage.

The footage began with newcomer Nikki Blonsky, who plays the
lead character - Tracy Turnblad in the film, waking up to get to
school. She misses the bus and is forced to hitch a ride. The whole
thing is done in this wonderfully music number which is perfectly cut.
You can see the love and time that must have gone into the
story-boarding and choreography of this sequence.

harispray2.jpg

The next segment followed Tracy and her best friend Penny
Pingleton, played by Amanda Bynes, as they rushed home to catch the
Corny Collins show on television. Tracy tries to convince her mother,
played by John Travolta in a female fat suit, into letting her audition
for the tv show. She of course says no, but her father, played by
Christopher Walken says yes. If there is one trepidation I have about
the footage I viewed, it would be the over the top performance of
Travolta. His part seemed so out of place, and more like a gimmick than
anything else. Walken is, well, Walken. You can never go wrong with
him, even in the worst film.

harispray3.jpgWe
then see Tracy at the tryout, where she blows away Corney Collins,
played by James Marsden. There is so much going on in this film.
It’s so colorful, and over the top. The dance numbers are what
you would expect from an old Hollywood musical. For example, the next
one they showed involved Tracy and her mother leaving a thrift store.
I’m not exactly sure about the context but the pair start dancing
and singing in the street where 30 or so random people join in for a
big dance number.

We also got a glimpse of Queen Latifah (who plays Motormouth
Maybelle) at a record store party. Tracy’s mom shows up an
embarrasses her but is quickly appeased by the offer of food. The
preview ended with a montage of slips from throughout the film, in
trailer fashion.

When the footage ended, the whole screening room broke out
in applause. I can’t stress to you how great some of this footage
was. Shankman really went for it, with confidence, and without holding
back.

The director again thanked the crowd and thanked New Line
for green-lighting the film when other musicals weren’t doing so
well. I can only assume he meant Rent.

harispray4.jpg

A reception was held in the lobby with food and wine. I was
able to speak with the producer Neil Meron, who actually admitted that
he wasn’t completely happy with the 20+ minute preview reel. He
claims that the preview footage doesn’t do the film justice, and
he wished that New Line would have let them show the whole thing.
Usually such a statement could be dismissed as hype, but I got the
feeling that Meron’s feelings were authentic. He seemed really
pleased with the result.
harispray5.jpgI
also discovered that the film’s lead, Nikki Blonsky, was a
complete newcomer. She has done nothing before this. The casting
director discovered Nikki on MySpace. So expect to hear a lot about
that leading up to the movie’s release. If it weren’t for
the recent Jennifer Hudson/Dreamgirls performance I’d probably be
praising Nikki, who seems to be perfect for the role of Tracy.

I also learned that Marissa Jaret Winokur (from the musical
cast), Rikki Lake (from the John Waters film), and newcomer Nikki
Blonsky (from the Shankman film) had just recorded a version of
“Mama, I’m a Big Girl Now” for the soundtrack release.

I asked Shankman if John Waters had seen any of the footage
yet, and he told me that not only had Waters seen the movie, but he
loved it. So take that for what it’s worth.

One thing is for sure, Hairspray is one to watch this
Summer, let’s just hope if doesn’t get buried between all
the Threequels being released. Hairspray hits theaters on July 20th 2007.

More Join Batman 2: The Dark Knight!

April 21st, 2007 by rockyblizzard

Batman-On-Film
is reporting that William Fichtner (Go) joined the already impressive
cast of "The Dark Knight." In the film Batman (Christian Bale) and Gordon (Gary Oldman) find alliance with a newly appointed DA Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart)
to stop a vicious killer with a warped sense of humor known only as The
Joker, a threat to both the good, and the evil of Gotham City.

While little is known about Fichtner’s
role, he is rumored to play the bank manager. In addition, Michael
Stoyanov, William Smiley, and Matthew O’Neil have also been cast to
play members of The Joker’s (Heath Ledger) gang.

"The Dark Knight" is set to hit theaters July 18th, 2008.

Get Smart 2 Is In Production Now!

April 21st, 2007 by rockyblizzard
Get Smart Movie

The big screen adaptation of Get Smart
starring Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway, hasn’t even finished
shooting, yet Warner Bros has already greenlit a sequel. Actually, they
gave the greenlight before the movie was even cast. And get this, the
sequel is also in production now. You read that right, in production
NOW.

The Direct-to-DVD sequel/spin-off, Get Smarter: Bruce & Lloyd Out of Control, will arrive in stores 10 days following the theatrical debut of Get Smart. The movie will focus on two secondary characters from the main movie: Bruce (played by Heroes star Masi Oka) and his geeky sidekick Lloyd (played by Nate Torrence).

Confused? Well, the studio wants to avoid that reaction
completely and has planned to start advertising the DVD release only
after the film’s first weekend at the box office.

While I’m usually against these direct to home video
sequels, this is a new idea with a lot of potential. Unlike a lot of
the other DVD sequels, Get Smarter will actually
feature actors from the original film. That has always been one of my
main beefs with the direct to home video model. The Mark Cuban concept
of a simultaneous release in theaters and on DVD has always interested
me. But are people really interested in buying a DVD of a movie they
just watched in the theater? If the DVD could be purchased without
buying a ticket, wouldn’t that prevent people from going to the
theater? I’ve never been quite sure how it would/could work with
a bigger release.

The Last 20 Minutes Of Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix Will Be Full 3D!

April 21st, 2007 by rockyblizzard
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix IMAX 3D Poster

IMAX has released the new poster for the IMAX 3D release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
The new poster, seen above, reads “Experience The Movie’s
Explosive Finale In IMAX 3D.” The one-sheet features Ron, Ginny,
Cho, Harry, Luna, Neville, and Hermione. Yesterday it was announced that the last 20 minutes of the IMAX version of the film, would be in 3D.

IMAX audiences can expect a little extra magic from "Harry Potter and
the Order of the Phoenix" this summer, as the large-format exhibitor
will transform some 20 minutes of the boy wizard’s latest adventure
into 3-D.

"Phoenix" is the second live-action feature to get the IMAX 3-D upgrade, after last summer’s "Superman Returns."
That pic required auds to take their glasses on and off several times
to appreciate three enhanced action scenes; "Phoenix" will limit the
effect to its action-packed finale.

"Phoenix" will be the third
"Harry Potter" film to screen in IMAX venues, building on a
longstanding relationship with pic’s producers and Warner Bros., the studio that supplies the majority of IMAX’s Hollywood fare.

“Fantastic Four” Star Wants To Be James Bond!

April 21st, 2007 by rockyblizzard

While
Daniel Craig is still basking in critical acclaim as the new James
Bond, Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd is already planning to take over the
legendary role.

But the slightly-built "Fantastic Four" star, 33, admits he would have to start working out to match 39-year-old Craig’s manly physique, shown off to such effect in "Casino Royale" in those tight blue swimming trunks.

Gruffudd admits: "I
would love to play Bond one day but I think I am 10 years too young.
Physically, I am not quite big enough. Of course, I could go to the gym
or whatever! Maybe in seven years’ time when Daniel is done and tired
of it and can retire a very rich man then maybe I could step into his
shoes. I think he’s been absolutely brilliant as James Bond. I thought
he was superb. He just nailed it.

Three More Spiderman Films Coming!

April 21st, 2007 by rockyblizzard

ComingSoon
reports that at the Los Angeles press junket, "Spider-Man 3" director
Sam Raimi confirmed that Sony Pictures is doing a 4th, 5th and 6th
installment of the popular franchise.

Raimi said that he hasn’t had time to think of any involvement and he doesn’t want to presume Sony would want him to direct. He said there has to be a good story to tell and that "it’d be very hard to say goodbye to ‘Spider Man.’"

Earlier, when Sam Raimi was asked if he would return for a fourth installmnet, he replied: "Absolutely."

"Spider-Man 3" opens in conventional theaters and IMAX on May 4th.

Sam Raimi Returns For Spiderman 4!

April 21st, 2007 by rockyblizzard
Sam Raimi

Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst have always said they would only return for a Spider-Man 4
if director Sam Raimi also returned. Until now Sam has been very
uncommitted when asked if he wanted to make another in the series. And
with The Hobbit rumors starting to escalate, I thought the band
breaking up for the fourth film was inevitable (remember however, Sony
has said they are making a fourth film with or without the returnees).
Well it now seems like Sam is starting to change his tune. ComingSoon asked the Evil Dead director if he would return for a fourth film. This is what he said:

“Absolutely,” said Raimi.
“Yes, I just don’t know what the future holds right now
because it’s so fresh and just having finished this film like a
week ago. It’s taken so many years to put together. My mind is an
empty blank right now.”

That’s a lot more positive than the “I’m
not sure” or “I don’t know”’s that
we’ve been accustomed to.
